b'Copyright Assertion HighlightsCopyright is a legal right that grants the creators of original work, such as software, exclusive rights for its use and distribution. INL employees assign such rights to the company as a condition of employment. In accordance with BEAs contract with DOE, all rights are assigned to DOE unless BEA specifically requests authority to assert copyright. BEA requests the permission to assert copyright on software it intends to license via open source and traditional agreements.During FY-20, INL received permission to assert copyright on 13 software programs. Since 2005, DOE has authorized INL to assert copyright protection on more than 130 pieces of software. Targeted Energy Management System Toolset Craig Rieger, Milos Manic, Dumidu WijayasekaraBuilding Energy Management Systems (BEMS) have evolved into highly complex information gathering and control systems. When properly tuned, BEMS enable significant energy savings in buildings. Targeted Energy Management System Toolset software integrates advanced sensor systems with computational intelligence (e.g., neural networks and fuzzy arithmetic) to enable effective energy management. In addition to optimizing existing BEMS, the toolsets resilience and security features proactively maintain a safe level of operational normalcy in response to anomalies and malicious actions.Caldera ChargeJohn Smart, Don Scoffield, Zonggen YiCaldera Charge is a simulation platform designed to study the impact of electric vehicle (EV) charging on the grid and develop strategies to manage charging. Its foundation is a library of high-fidelity EV charging models derived from extensive charging and battery testing data that INL has collected over the past decade. It contains smart charging algorithms and modules to explore how artificial intelligence can help drivers and automated vehicles make intelligent charging decisions. Linking existing simulation tools with Caldera Charge can accurately model the grid impact of EV charging.Commercial Routing Assistance Timothy Klett, Mary Klett, Robert Edsall, Michael OvertonDeveloped for the Department of Homeland Security in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Commercial Routing Assistance (CRA) is a web application that provides the trucking industry a visual display of route restrictions, alternative routes and other pertinent information pulled from publicly available sources, including state websites and databases. Like common mapping apps found on most smartphones and tablets, CRA allows users to enter start and stop locations. The map then populates with several potential routes, giving initial preference to the shortest route. The state-by-state feature allows users to drill down into datasets within a specific state.Caldera Charge simulates the impact of electric vehicle charging on the grid.8'
